Arrrrrr! Beer Thief!
By Rocky | January 28, 2008
There’s nothing worse than having your beer stolen, then again its only Bud Light. Today’s You Tube is quiet a funny one and you don’t know who gets the most traumatic experience the girl or the guy. Probably the guy. Bud Light has had some great commercials and with the Superbowl only days away you can bet they will have a cracker lined up, hopefully we will be able to feature it soon. Bud Light was only launched back in 1982 and has become America’s favorite beer; to keep up with demand it is brewed at all of Anheuser-Busch’s 12 breweries in the USA. The beer is called light because of its low carbohydrates, it is a full strength beer (in American Terms) with 4.2% alcohol volume, and is brewed using all natural ingredients, just water, barley, malt, hops, rice and of course yeast.

Amazing 70,000 beer cans in the house
By Rocky | January 19, 2008
Here’s a news story which could only happen in America. A perfect tenant has moved out of a quiet neighborhood and left a little surprise for the real estate agent- 70,000 beer cans. They were over a metre high all through the house and in some places in boxes up to the roof. The guy liked a beer, but didn’t seem to think the empty can should go in the trash- he might have been waiting for one of those cash a can days. The 70,000 cans were all Coors Light and the tenant lived in the house for 8 years which means he must have knocked off about a slab of cans every day he was there. As you can see from the You Tube news report they ended up tracing down he man, he doesn’t touch the stuff any more, maybe because he’s too lazy to open the can? who knows.

La Jolla Brew House San Diego
By Rocky | January 15, 2008

The San Diego Union Tribune is doing what a lot of city newspapers do each January, do “best of” of their city using a readers poll. Best pub is a prized award and the La Jolla Brew House is the hot favorite to take the best pub in San Diego award. The La Jolla Brew House is at 7536 Fay Avenue in beautiful La Jolla which is just a few miles north of the centre of San Diego on the Californian Coast. The pub does some great meals but the beer is what the pub is famous for. The pub has it’s own brewery and the beer sure is good, they usually have about 10 types on tap including a Czech style Blonde, an India Pale Ale, and an extra special bitters but they also have a range of amazing beers which are like no other including the Heffwetzzen which like the name suggests is German style with banana and apple flavors, and a rich creamy milk stout, and a beer called Red Roost which has caramel malts and a touch of chocolate malt- it is absolutely beautiful.

Michelob Celebrate Chocolate and Cherry
By Rocky | December 31, 2007

The giant US brewer Anheuser Busch has released a two special beers for the festive season under the Michelob brand, called Michelob Celebrate the beer features the flavours of cherry and chocolate. The beers have been available for about 5 weeks and if you hurry (North America only it appears) you might be able to get one of the fancy bottles of this tasty beer. The beer is brewed using Munich carapils caramel malt and uses real cherry juice or real coco beans. They are packaged magnificently in 24 ounce platinum bottles and are also available in a beautiful gift pack which has one of each flavour and two crystal snifters. They contain 8.5% alcohol so give off quiet a kick. Michelob suggest they should be served at even room temperature (remembering North America is in Winter) and are delicious with rich deserts. Sounds delicious but after seeing the bottles they are just too beautiful to open. But they are probably a great beer to pop at midnight to welcome in 2008.

A touch of lime and salt - in my beer? what?
By Rocky | December 26, 2007

The latest trend sweeping the bars is the new range of Chelada style, or Michelada beers from Mexico. They bring together a combination of a nice light tasting beer, a bit like Corona and a mix of lime and salt. You might think Yuk, but they are really refreshing, and by the way so m any breweries are bringing out this type of product, it look like Chelada style beer is going to be the beer for the beautiful people of 2008. Another popular Michelda style beer is the Cerveza Preparda, which we here at Hoppsy wonder if it will be the next wave, it features- wait for it- beer, tomato juice and salsa inglesa which is like Worcestershire sauce- please brewers Don’t do it!!!!. Miller Chill is the first of these products to take on the market, with many others following. The Miller Chill has a very sweet and refreshing taste, and the salt really brings out he crispness of the beer, and is going to be a very popular summer time drink. The taste is similar to that of a Corona with a slice of lime but a more sweet and lime taste. We at Hoppsy think it is going to convert many of the people who drink the RTD ‘lolly water’ vodka or wine based drinks over to beer, which can’t be a bad thing. Try one next time you visit your local bar or pub, if nothing else Miller Chill is something different!

Chistmas cheer with a Christmas Beer
By Rocky | December 25, 2007

Well today is Christmas Day which is more than a good reason to enjoy a nice refreshing beer. Well the people at Anchor Steam Breweries in San Francisco have put together the perfect beer for the season, A Christmas Ale. Every year since 1975 the brewery has produced a special beer to celebrate Christmas and this year is no exception. They make a different recipe every year and this year their Christmas Ale is nothing short of delicious. The beer has become not only a great drinking beer but a collectors beer, and are sought over by many people who add them to their beer collection, and the brewery suggests the beer will keep well and even mature with age like a good wine if kept in a cool dark place. Now it’s not to late to get a few of these beautiful crafted beers, as they sell them for a few more weeks, but although Anchor Steam does export it’s beers it might be very difficult getting one outside the USA, but good luck- and of course Merry Christmas! Wassabi….
By Rocky | December 23, 2007
We know, we have come to the end of our Japanese Beer Ads week- We have enjoyed them so much, and we think we will do another week of them sometime in the New Year. For our last day we have found a real treat, and to be fair it’s not really Japanese, it’s for Budweiser. You should get a laugh out of it, its based in a Japanese restaurant and the fun is all around the pronunciation of Wassabi the hot horse radish sauce so popular in Japanese cuisine.
