Hahn Super Dry has a incredible new ad. Its been dubbed, by Hahn, “the most epic beer comercial ever”. Well to say the least this ad has to be right up there with the best. It show an interesting production line including even a ferret checking the beers coming out of the production line- now that is hard to top! The ad has been pretty successful for the huge Lion Nathan brewer with it uploaded to just about everywhere it has had over a million visitors to You Tube alone in only a week.

May at Hoppsy is New Zealand Beer month and the first of our beer stories from the land of the great long cloud is Speight’s Summit Golden Ale. This 4% alcohol lager was first brewed back in June of 2008 and is the brewer’s first all natural beer. Speight’s use only natural ingredients including lovely Pacific Hallertau Hops from Nelson which is added late in the brew to the kettle, delicious malted barleys and crystal clear New Zealand water to produce a pretty tasty beer. It is a fairly light beer in comparison to the mainstream Speight’s Gold Medal but has a wonderful fruity flavour with some floral aromatics. The beer like many New Zealand beers has a sweet and smooth taste. Speight’s part of the Lion Nathan suite of brands has been marketing this beer as a smooth flavoured golden larger that embodies the spirit of the modern Southern Man and is aiming at younger and more active customer, who might purchase a imported product instead of the traditional beers.

Our beer brewing friends at Lion Nathan are offering a great new promise- ‘beer brewed in compliance to the Natural Beer promise’. Their big brands- Tooheys New, Tooheys Old, XXXX Gold, XXXX Bitter, Swan Draught and West End Draught are now only being brewed using natural ingredients and no nasty artificial additives or preservatives. Similar to the Purity laws in Germany Lion Nathan have rules which only allow five natural ingredients in these beers, malted, or unmalted grains, hops, yeast, water and cane sugar- that’s it nothing else- no artificial colours, preservatives, flavour enhances or any other nasty chemicals. It’s usually the chemicals like preservatives and colourings like sulphur dioxide which give you that nasty head after a big night- not the beer. This is great news for beer lovers and hopefully it will extend to more of the Lion Nathan brands and all other beers for that matter- there is nothing better than natural ingredients, they taste better and they are better for you.

As its Australia Day this week we thought we would dedicate the week to Aussie Beers. We are starting our Australian festival of beer with a You Tube ad from Lion Nathan brewer for their Hahn Premium Light . Set on a Gondola on what should have been a romantic cruise through Venice, the poor girl doesn’t quiet get into the spirit of it. You will see what I mean. Back to the beer, Hahn Premium Light is one of Australia’s most popular light beers, unlike beers labeled light in some countries, the Australian light beers are actually full flavored but low in Alcohol, the Hahn Premium is 2.7% where the average full alcohol beer is around 5%. The beer has been on the market for about 20 years and available on draft tap and packaged.
