Man cannot live on bread alone

By Rocky | May 9, 2008

YouTube Direct

We haven’t done a Japanese Beer commercial for a while and found this one, its a ripper, but we have no idea what it is about- It advertises Sapporo which is one of Japan’s tastier drops and as you will see this ad features a some pretty weird images and sounds not forgetting a quick toilet stop. It looks as if it is shot in Akasaka in Tokyo at a bar, during a few afterwork drinks with the boys- there’s some references to proverbs- and even some weird tribal dancing– who knows?  If you can work out whats going on drop us a line in the comments box below.

Goes well with a Japanese sausage

By Rocky | March 8, 2008

YouTube Direct

After yesterday’s amusing Japanese beer ad we thought we would do another, this time for Asahi. These guys are cooking up a huge sausage feast and plan to wash it down with a few ice cold Asahi’s. There’s some great expressions and beer and sausage party looks pretty tasty, wish we were there!

Another fun Japanese beer ad

By Rocky | February 22, 2008

YouTube Direct

We haven’t done a Japanese beer ad for a while and thought it was about time. This one is a sort of cute one advertising on of Asha’s new Happoshu  products, which is a low malt beer like product which is produced to avoid a few of the beer taxes imposed on higher malt products. The ad features Konishi Manami who is a famous actress in Japan she has featured in quiet a few movies and just about every Japanese television drama there is.   You should enjoy the happy little jingle which goes with the ad.

Tomato Beer- from Japan- where else!

By Rocky | February 9, 2008

tomato-beer.gif

Well as you read yesterday we have a real treat today from the Echigo beer company in Japan- Tomato flavored beer. It’s probably not the weirdest beer in Japan, considering they have some very strange flavoring in some of their other foods, like squid and octopus ice-cream and cuttlefish flavored chips. We couldn’t get too much detail on the Tomato Bibere as Echigo’s site is in Japanese but with a clever conversion we found that the beer matched Hodoyoku tomato flavors and was a beer with healthy appeal using liquor and organic tomatoes. The beer seems to act as an antioxidant and has plenty of vitamin E, more than 1000 times that of regular beer. The 330 ml bottle sells for 420 Yen which isn’t cheap considering the average beer in Japan is half that. If you have tasted the tomato beer or any other strange brew would you drop us a line and we will tell our other readers.

A pink pussy to match your beer

By Rocky | February 8, 2008

YouTube Direct

We are not 100% sure if this stuff is beer, but the ad is too good to not use it. It’s another amazing ad from Japan. It looks as if their beer called ‘Be’ is available in different colors, there’s pink, green and blue so what better to advertise it than three kittens dyed the same colour playing a piano. The advertising people in Japan must have been on on some interesting drugs when coming up with this one. Bolt yourself to your chair (as you will fall off laughing) and enjoy.

Reijyou All Malt Beer Super Premium

By Rocky | January 30, 2008

reijyou-beer.gif

Japan changed their beer tax laws in the early 1990’s which then allowed smaller breweries to start up and Echigo Breweries was one of them starting in 1993. Today they make a fine range of products including today’s beer the Reijyou Pilsner. It’s a 5% all malt beer with a refreshing hoppsy flavour. Like many Japanese beers it has a light but fairly frothy head and a strong aroma, which is actually stronger than it’s taste. It is not readily available outside Japan but many Japanese and Asian supermarkets stock it. It is well worth a try and an alternative to the mainstream Japanese beer products which have taken a strong hold on the market, and any beer company which has a goat on it’s logo must be good!

Come back tommorow and we have a story about a $400 beer!

A few free beers and a look around

By Rocky | January 12, 2008

asahi-brewery-nagoya.gif

What could be a better day out than a few freshly brewed free beers and a look around a brewery? At Ashahi Breweries in Nagoya Japan they are offering this great adventure. Tours are conducted in Japanese and also English. The tour is quiet an eye opener, with the brewery being one of the most modern around. The equipment is very high tech and the fermenting tanks are monstrous.  You get a really good understanding of how beer is produced and packaged over about 90 minutes, before ending up at the best bit the tasting room for a few free samples and the odd seafood cracker- delicious.  You can stay a little longer and have lunch and pay for a few extra beers if you wish. If you are really nice to the friendly customer relations people they might even send an extra free on your way if things are not very busy. Read the rest of this entry »
