At last Feng Shui makes perfect sense
By Rocky | January 7, 2008
I have never really understood the way of Feng Shui until now, probably because I am Australian and this ad made perfect sense, lets face it all you need in your house is a TV for the footy and cricket, a comfy couch, a toilet close by and a fridge full of beer. I remember Homer Simpson was even intelligent enough to come up with that one years ago- although I think he added some pork rind to the mix (must be the American Touch ? ). Anyway this is a ad for the Australian beer everyone drinks except Australians- Fosters Lager, the world is missing out on so many great Carlton and United beers! - enjoy.

Well I am sure you have noticed we like featuring beer robots a bit on Hoppsy, well we found another one. This time it’s a clever ad for Holston Pils. The robot is a clever little fella, not only can he answer any question about Hamburg’s finest pils he also has a fridge in his tummy full of the fresh frothy brew. I want one!

Wassabi….
By Rocky | December 23, 2007
We know, we have come to the end of our Japanese Beer Ads week- We have enjoyed them so much, and we think we will do another week of them sometime in the New Year. For our last day we have found a real treat, and to be fair it’s not really Japanese, it’s for Budweiser. You should get a laugh out of it, its based in a Japanese restaurant and the fun is all around the pronunciation of Wassabi the hot horse radish sauce so popular in Japanese cuisine.

Beer for Kids- what will they think of next?
By Rocky | December 20, 2007
Well from the land which has beer and smokes vending machines on street corners for easy access to everyonen now has a beer for kids. Well it may not be real beer, it seems to be a apple based product but it sure looks like beer, and by the look of this ad kids love it. It’s frothy, golden and looks as if it puts a smile on the face of evey Japanese boy and girl. Turn the sound up on this You Tube as the song which goes with the ad is fantastic and you will probably be humming it in your sleep. The drink is called ‘Kodomo no nomimono” and is sold in cans, bottles and wait for it, even six packs. We have done a little research and they also make a sparkling grape juice for the little ones, which is pretty much a alcohol free champange

Yellow Magic Orchestra play the Moog for Kirin Lager
By Rocky | December 19, 2007
This ad is a bit of a weird arty one. It is for Kirin Lager and features the Yellow Magic Orchestra playing the Moog Synthesizer Little Phatty. The Yellow Magic Orchestra are one of Japan’s hottest acts, they have been around since 1978 and are renowned as having pioneered synthpop and electropop in Japan, they are compared to Germany’s Kraftwerk- you might remember Kraftwerk for that Autobahn song in the mid 1970’s. This ad is quiet entertaining the YMO are dressed as cavemen, geishas and their best suits, not sure what it has to do with selling beer but who cares, its all a bit of fun.

Drunk Penguins- now thats what I gotta see!
By Rocky | December 18, 2007
Well after yesterday’s Blue Tounge Anti Whale controversial video, we thought we should lighten up a bit - athough we are still angry people eat want to whales when there are so many other tasty animals. Today’s Japanese Beer Ad is a ripper, in fact there are 5 short ones for your viewing pleasure. The quality isn’t all that good but the content sure is cute. It’s a series of drinking penguin ads- Beer is making this little fella a bit emotional I think. He has a lovely black and white singing girl friend and a nice can of tasty Japanese Beer. You are going to love it.

Drink beer instead of eating whales!
By Rocky | December 17, 2007
Most of the world thinks its not very nice eating whales and we agree. But many Japanese appear to need to eat them after they do their so called scientific research - haven’t they tried cows? Blue Tounge beer in Sydney Australia has taken the step to link their tasty beer with the horrors of whale slaughter with this somewhat unpleasant ad. Hopefully it will help change the minds of the people who enjoy eating these magnificent creatures and they will reach for a bottle of beer instead - im sure the beer is much tastier and wouldn’t have that fishy smell! (Just a little warning today’s You Tube video might be too graphic for some but thankfully no whale is shown being hurt in this advertisment) Save the Whales!!

Its Japanese Beer ad Week!
By Rocky | December 16, 2007
We have found so many great Japanese Beer ads on YouTube so we thought we would do a whole week of them. Some of them - well all I can say are amazing. The first reminds us of the hit movie “Lost In Translation” but its Harrison Ford selling Beer instead of Bill Murray selling Scotch- The Japanese have a long history of using huge US stars in somewhat awkward Japanese ads - you should enjoy it.

Sapporo Black Label
By Rocky | November 17, 2007
Sapporo Black Label celebrates its 30th anniversary this year and is the premium product of the Sapporo range. Recently to higlight the Nama, or real taste in Japanese the beer has been marketed more towards restaurants and bars in bottled form. It’s a tasty drop and this You Tube advertisement is a bit of fun, its a cross between a Japanese BBQ and a game of soccer and some sort of martial arts- you have got to see it to believe it.
