We at hoppsy (being Aussies) like a small head on our beer, but whenever we visit Japan we notice that the locals there love the head to take up a third of the glass. This must explain the need for this amazing product from Japan that helps you ruin improve your beers head automatically. From what we can tell there is some sort of spring loaded leaver in the handle connected to a disc in the bottom of the glass that must rattle about to cause the frothy goodness you see in the video above. The amusingly titled Beer Jug Jokki Hour is available soon from Japan trend shop, hit up the link below for a closer look.

It’s a Bird, It’s a plane, no it’s a Pot

YouTube Direct

If you were heading to Melbourne’s CBD this morning you may have noticed a giant Pot Glass floating in the sky, not to dissimilar to the giant pot featured in the Carlton Draught Skytoop ad that has been doing the rounds of Australian TV lately. The giant pot is 30 meter high hot air balloon that Carlton has commissioned just in time to float above the AFL Finals, so if you missed expect to see it a bit more over the coming months. Read the full story after the jump or watch the video above of the Skytroop pot that has inspired the balloon. Read the rest of this entry »

The mystery of the late night kabab

YouTube Direct

We are kicking off a feature of classic Aussie beer ads this week with the one above for VB. While the tune for the ad is the familiar “best cold beer is vic” tune it is slightly altered to try and explain the mystery of how you end up with a kabab after on a night on the turps. Sit back and enjoy, then let us know any kabab experiences you may remember below. Read the rest of this entry »

Beer and body functions go together

YouTube Direct

Ah beer commercials, some companies spend millions of dollars to create huge ad campaigns with outrageous stunts while others come up with something simple that works well. The above ad works well because as we all know, there is nothing funnier than fart jokes. The ad is for Troegs brewing company, an independent brewery based in Harrisburg Pennsylvania. The hook in the ad is that farting and burping is only natural just like their beer. According to their website they only distribute within a 3 hour radius of the brewery so if you want to blame your farts on the beer you better head over to Pennsylvania, other wise just watch the ad above and enjoy. A Fursty Ferret

YouTube Direct

Hall and Woodhouse are a brewery from Dorset in the UK and date back to 1777 and one of their more interesting products is the Fursty Ferret. Ledged tells it that local ferrets were often found sneaking in the back door of the local inn owned by Miss Rose Gribble to sample the tasty beer. So to celebrate Hall and Woodhouse produced the Fursty Ferret in 1980 and now is one of their most popular brands, for people and the odd weasel like creature. The brewery also makes a range of badger beers, we are not sure what the story is there but maybe badgers like a drop or two of the golden stuff too? Hall and Woodhouse also have the license to brew HB beers for the UK, using the traditional Munich recipes. The Fursty Ferret was originally a seasonable beer produced in autumn but now it is available all year round in 4.4% 500ml clear glass bottles. You cant miss the lovely ferrets on the label. A pink pussy to match your beer

YouTube Direct

We are not 100% sure if this stuff is beer, but the ad is too good to not use it. It’s another amazing ad from Japan. It looks as if their beer called ‘Be’ is available in different colors, there’s pink, green and blue so what better to advertise it than three kittens dyed the same colour playing a piano. The advertising people in Japan must have been on on some interesting drugs when coming up with this one. Bolt yourself to your chair (as you will fall off laughing) and enjoy.

Arrrrrr! Beer Thief!

YouTube Direct

There’s nothing worse than having your beer stolen, then again its only Bud Light. Today’s You Tube is quiet a funny one and you don’t know who gets the most traumatic experience the girl or the guy. Probably the guy. Bud Light has had some great commercials and with the Superbowl only days away you can bet they will have a cracker lined up, hopefully we will be able to feature it soon. Bud Light was only launched back in 1982 and has become America’s favorite beer; to keep up with demand it is brewed at all of Anheuser-Busch’s 12 breweries in the USA. The beer is called light because of its low carbohydrates, it is a full strength beer (in American Terms) with 4.2% alcohol volume, and is brewed using all natural ingredients, just water, barley, malt, hops, rice and of course yeast.

Australians wouldn’t giva a XXXX for anything

YouTube Direct

This is surely one of the worst corny ads I have ever seen. Its for Queensland’s Castlemaine XXXX beer for the UK market. It uses some really bad Australian Stereotyping. You are expecting a crocodile or a dingo to come out and eat here, but sadly not the case. Anyway XXXX is Queensland’s most popular drop, and quiet popular in the northern states of the country and making great inroads into the UK giving good old Fosters a run for it’s money as Australia’s beer. The beer is no where as bad as this ad- Take a look, you are sure to cringe- I am sure it’s set back Australian Culture 20 years, we are going to need Sir Les Patterson our Cultural Ambassador to do some good work to show we Aussies have much more style and sophistication than this.
