Hahn Super Dry has a incredible new ad. Its been dubbed, by Hahn, “the most epic beer comercial ever”. Well to say the least this ad has to be right up there with the best. It show an interesting production line including even a ferret checking the beers coming out of the production line- now that is hard to top! The ad has been pretty successful for the huge Lion Nathan brewer with it uploaded to just about everywhere it has had over a million visitors to You Tube alone in only a week.

Launched in Sep 2008, Budweiser American Ale is a fairly new product in the Budweiser range so it is receiving a fair bit of heavy marketing about the place at the moment with ads like the one above, a fancy website, a youtube channel and even an iPhone app. American Ale is an amber ale style all-malt brew made with caramel malted barley from Idaho and Minnesota, then dry-hopped with Cascade hops from the Pacific Northwest. The result is apparently more of a micro brew style of beer than the traditional Bud products. We haven’t tried American Ale yet but this sounds like good news to us, when in the States we drank a fair bit of Bud although it wouldn’t be our first choice when looking in the liquor shop fridge. If you have had this Bud let us know what you recon below.

We got a mail from Matthew Freeman he has written a novel called “Beer Money” which sounds pretty interesting and might apeal to some of our Hoppsy readers.
A brewery executive has gone missing – or has he? Joe Abbott is paid by the man’s wife with a beer-sodden cheque to find out the truth.

In doing so he locks horns with dodgy nightclub owners, a toupeed beer baron, and endless assorted ratbags – and, of course, a wild pig – all in the twisted pursuit of a stash of missing money. Plus he has time for a beer or ten along the way.

What the critics said about Beer Money:

“Our hero is suitably scruffy, cynical and dogged …. In a word, quirky” – Herald Sun

“A laugh-aloud crime frolic” – Sydney Daily Telegraph

“The perfect bit of beer-soak fiction” – Beer and Brewer Magazine

“A rare and entertaining yarn” – Beers of the World

Anyway, it’s a wacky kind of read.

Back in May nearly 2000 people including some of Australia’s best known celebrities turned up in the streets of the historic gold town of Ballarat in Victoria to star in what is probably Australia’s biggest ever beer commercial. The shoot took two day and took over Lydiard and Sturt Street in Ballarat’s centre. The ad featured a parade with plenty of Australianisms, brass bands, cricketers, rugby and footy stars even a streaker all for one of Australia’s most popular beers VB. VB or Victoria Bitter is brewed by the huge Fosters Group and is Australia’s biggest selling beer and found on tap in most pubs around Australia. In recent years Australian’s started trying some of the more boutique beers and many imported brands, but VB has remained strong. A short while back the brand was grown to include a lower alcohol version called VB Gold and there are stories doing the rounds of a new low carb version not far away. The new VB commercial has just hit the Australian airwaves- take a look at our YouTube version and be on the lookout for someone famous.

SharamQ are one of the hottest J-Pop bands in Japan and they feature in this series of Suntory Beer Comercials. Wiht their lead singer Tsunku looking a bit like Adam Ant they belt out the Suntory Jingle. The band formed in 1988 and ran for a few years then came back due to popular demand in 2006 and have continued to today. They have had a string of hits but our favorite is Shin R?men Daisuki Koike-san no Uta – which translated is about about Koike who likes Noodles- again only in Japan.

Virgin Blonde Beer was introduced onto the Australian market a few months ago and is the first of what is hoped to be a range of beers by …… using organic products with no nasty chemicals or synthetic products. This tasty blonde dosen even have extra sugar added to the brew it uses just barley, yeast, New Zealand grown hops and water- Nothing else. Brewed by the Steel River Brewery in Mayfield, New South Wales, which is near Newcastle north of Sydney. This beer contains 4.0% alcohol volume and is very refreshing and lets not forget dosent’ contain any of those nasties so many other beers contain with all the big words like Polyvinylpolypyrrolidinone or Rhoiso-alpha acids or Di-Ammonium Phosphate – their names alone are bad for you.

Beer vending machines in the street- well it could only be in Japan. Although not as common as soda or icecream vending machines Japan has Beer vending machines. Many of them are easily accessible on street corners, you just put in your Yen select which beer you would like and presto- a can of beer, you can even purchase your favorite smokes in an adjoining machine how convenient is that. Minors don’t touch them as there’s a sign on them saying you have to be 18 to purchase grog- a wonderful deterrent, which some how seems to work.

The Cuban Revolution started in January 1st 1959 when the US backed dictator Fulgencio Batista was overthrown and later taken over by Fidel Castro who has hung on to power until recently passing power to his brother. Well, with the history lesson aside its time to talk about Cuba 59 the beer. Well this beer’s label and price might make you think it is a genuine Cuban Beer, but infact it is brewed in Australia by Australian Independent Brewers who make a wide range of quality beers including Haagen Australian Lager and Platinum Blonde to name a few. The beer plays tribute to the beers of Cuba with a crisp clean palette with a touch of malt and a bit of citrus aftertaste. The beer is fairly light and not unlike many of the Mexican beers like Sol or even Tegate. Being an extra dry the beer is a good summer beer and with some clever marketing underway should do well next summer.

Canada is known for some pretty good beers and Kokanee is no exeption. Its light golden nectar is very flavorsome and packs a 5.0% alcohol volume. Named after the Sockeye Salmon the beer is made from glacier fresh water at the Columbia Brewery in Creston, British Columbia, which has been owned by Labatt since 1974, their beers date back to 1898 and is pretty much the most popular beer in Western Canada. The beer can be found oustide Canada and is fairly distinctive in the fridge with a white and blue lable feauturing Grays Peak with the infamous Sasquatch ontop of the peak. Kokanee have one of the flashest beer websites we have seen for a while www.kokaneebeer.ca – well worth checking out.
