We like South Africa, it looks pretty cool, they have hippos, people with funny accents and thanks to the world cup, a new beer. We saw this news story on reuters and it made us want some so we are sharing the video here. Watch and enjoy.

George Hurst was a founder of the Kenya Breweries Ltd which produced Kenya Lager, but poor old George came off second best on a hunting expedition back in 1923, instead of him killing an elephant, the elephant won the day and killed George. So in memory of George the lager was renamed Tusker and is today the biggest alcoholic brand in Kenya and indeed East Africa. The beer is sold in several markets outside Africa including the UK, United States, Canada and Japan. It has a 4.2% alcohol volume and a crisp taste using the highest quality malted barley which is grown in the beautiful Kenyan Rift Valley. Tusker Lager has consistently won Gold Medals in the International Monde Selection Quality Awards.

When you think of beer you usually don’t think of African Beers but there are some great ones and we have found a great German Style beer in Namibia called Windhoek Lager. Brewed using the Germany Purity Laws of 1515 this beer is sensational and has one the priced DLG award in Namibia. Brewed by Namibia Breweries which also brew the Windhoel in a light, an Export, a Special, a pilsner and a Club Shandy along with being the local brewers of Heineken and one of Namibia’s other favorite brands Tafel Lager.  The Windhoek Lager can be found outside Namibia at specialty beer stores and its rich golden taste and mild bitterness would make a great addition to any beer fridge.

This week we have a great sports add from Castle Lager in South Africa celebrating some of their great sporting teams including their world winning cricketers. Castle Lager is dats back to 1894 when it Castle Brewery started in Johannesburg in 1894. It is now owned by SABMiller which is owned by US beer giant Miller and now owns many of the big African Beer brands.
