Woops, thats quite incorrect. Bernie Power was a barrister and then publican who never worked for XXXX.
He started Powers Brewery to compete with XXXX when Alan Bond bought it and Swan Brewing. Powers took 25% of the QLD beer market in its first year. Something still taught at universities today as a remarkable feat. Powers Gold was launched at the same time as XXXX gold, and they went to court - Powers won! Fosters then wound down the Powers Brand machine and focused on its own brands to compete with XXXX in QLD. This exists today.

No, Powers Gold existed in the late 80s and the packaging was challenged in court by XXXX as it was very much (and still is) a knockoff of XXXX Gold's general label design.

Fosters Yatala put out this brew once or twice a year in 30 Can blocks at cheap price to interfere with XXXX Gold sales, and is mostly bought by those occasional drinkers who only buy a carton of beer - any beer will do as long as it's wet - once a year to keep the BBQ guests appeased. Also Fosters have to do the brew occasionally to retain rights to the Powers name.
