I think we have mentioned before on Hoppsy, everyone outside Australia thinks Fosters when we they think of Australian Beer, unlike the Aussies who really don’t care for the stuff. Fosters is the most successful Australian beer brand all around the world being sold just about everywhere. Today it is brewed in several countries Australia, and is a huge seller expecially in the UK. We found this great Hong Kong Fosters ad which dates back to the early 1980’s which is a beauty and well worth a look, maybe enjoy watching it with a refreshing Fosters to celebrate our Australia Day week of beers.

So wat makes Fosters so dislikable in Australia? Why does current generation not connect wid it? Is it cos the taste buds in Australia are diff. from the rest of the world? Or is it cos of the image…

I think there are a lot of reasons, Fosters is not alone. Many other international brands are not as popular back home. The beer sometimes tastes different, due to the water, the company dosn’t have so many products to push so they can concentrate on the product. Perhaps if Foster’s sold VB internationally it would be a different story, or if they had have chosen Melbourne Bitter or Carlton which where there two biggest brands in the 60 & 70s they may be the international brand… The company decided on Fosters, and spent millions outside Australia promoting it and it has done really well for them. In Australia the Fosters message gets lost amongst their other great nameplates. has anyone else got any further ideas?
