Willkommen to Yokohama Oktoberfest?

japan-octoberfest

Yes thats right the Yokohama is the place to celebrate Oktoberfest. German Bier, Sausages, giant pretzels, more bier, Bustly Barmaids (well Japanese ones) and even more beer plus all the things you would expect in Munich can be found at the annual Oktoberfest Celebration in the Japan city of Yokohama. The event started in 2003 and has been a huge hit ever since. It is held at the waterfront at the Aka Renga Soko or old Red Brick Warehouse where huge tents are erected for the event.  This year’s party starts on the 3rd of October and continues through to the 13th.

I have been the last two years. The beer is great! They actually import the Oktoberfest special brew direct from Germany. The food is pretty good, thoough the lines are absolutely ridiculous and the beer and food lines are seperate! I recommend you go in a group of at least 3 (1=food line, 1=beer line, 1=save the seats).

Also, I found the crowd to be overly subdued and when I tried to inject some energy by singing and trying to toast my “neighbors” I was given strange looks and people shied away from me. Apparently they would rather drink their Japanese beer and remain quiet rather than join in the revelry.

I hope everyone comes out to jjoin in on the fun and help me to show Japan how to truly enjoy the Oktoberfestivities!
