Tomato Beer- from Japan- where else!
By Rocky | February 9, 2008

Well as you read yesterday we have a real treat today from the Echigo beer company in Japan- Tomato flavored beer. It’s probably not the weirdest beer in Japan, considering they have some very strange flavoring in some of their other foods, like squid and octopus ice-cream and cuttlefish flavored chips. We couldn’t get too much detail on the Tomato Bibere as Echigo’s site is in Japanese but with a clever conversion we found that the beer matched Hodoyoku tomato flavors and was a beer with healthy appeal using liquor and organic tomatoes. The beer seems to act as an antioxidant and has plenty of vitamin E, more than 1000 times that of regular beer. The 330 ml bottle sells for 420 Yen which isn’t cheap considering the average beer in Japan is half that. If you have tasted the tomato beer or any other strange brew would you drop us a line and we will tell our other readers.

[...] Tomato Beer: The Echigo Beer Company in Japan has released Tomato Bibere. I’m intrigued, but I fear it likely just tastes nasty. If I really want tomato beer, I’ll just squirt some ketchup into a Bud Light. [...]

squid and octopus ice-cream is quite mild compared to some other Japanese ice creams. Jellyfish ice cream, Sea salt ice cream, Fried oyster ice cream, chicken wing ice cream, raw horse meat ice cream…!! some are nice though - Green Tea and Sweet potato ice cream - sounds yuk but isn’t.
cheers,
