Japan changed their beer tax laws in the early 1990’s which then allowed smaller breweries to start up and Echigo Breweries was one of them starting in 1993. Today they make a fine range of products including today’s beer the Reijyou Pilsner. It’s a 5% all malt beer with a refreshing hoppsy flavour. Like many Japanese beers it has a light but fairly frothy head and a strong aroma, which is actually stronger than it’s taste. It is not readily available outside Japan but many Japanese and Asian supermarkets stock it. It is well worth a try and an alternative to the mainstream Japanese beer products which have taken a strong hold on the market, and any beer company which has a goat on it’s logo must be good!

Come back tommorow and we have a story about a $400 beer!
