BILK - Beer with milk
By Rocky | March 25, 2008

Yes your right its from Japan, where else! This ‘tasty’ mix is 30% milk and 70% beer and was the answer to the oversupply of milk in Hokkaido Japan. The beer is made by the Abashiri Brewery which is from the northern island of Hokkaido and is brewed pretty much the same way as normal beer and it even contains hops. The Bilk looks like beer with a soft golden colour but has a distinct milky smell. Like a lot of Japanese beers the beer is low malt and tastes a bit fruit, even a bit like tea. The milk is boiled then hops and yeast is added then left to ferment just like normal beer. Bilk is selling for about 380 yen in stores which is about $4, but is currently only being sold in a few outlets around Nakashibetsu. Who knows it might catch on and we all might be drinking it soon….Can’t wait!
