Red Strip is probably the best known of the Jamaican Lager Beers, originating from Kingston Jamaica in 1918. Today owned by one of the worlds biggest brewers Diageo which owns Guinness. The beer has had a colourful life and in the early days it even had a painted lable. The beer became popular in America and England during the early 1990’s when reggae and ska music was very popular. Interestingly in 1989 exports to the USA was halted for a while after a marijuana smuggling racket was uncovered in cases of the tasty larger. Today the beer has been licenced to brew in a few places around the world and is available in most beer loving countries around the world in the short and fat little brown stubby or in a can in other markets.

I had this really great beer while visiting a friend in France. I’m from Canada.
They brought a few bottles from the USA.
The name of the beer is Sugar Hill Golden Ale. Can you tell anythiing about the founders?
