Dunkel Weisse

Michelob’s Dunkel Weisse is the latest product in Anheuser-Busch’s premium Michelob beer brand. This time the beer is a German style dark wheat ale and by all reports it’s pretty damm tasty. The beer has a low 12.0% of carbs for its 12 ounces and contains 2.2 grams of protein. The beer has a distinct banana and clove taste and is based on a recipe which dates back to the 1520’s. Using all malt and being unfiltered the beer uses a unique Bavarian yeast strain and is produced in St Louis Missouri. The beer has already picked up a Gold Medal in the recent North American Beer Awards. We are not yet sure what the distribution of this product outside the USA will be, but with the recent sales success of the Michelob products already on sale in most markets it probably wont be long before this is sitting on the shelves next to them.

Don’t waste your money on this undrinkable slop. I can’t believe it made it on the market. It tastes like a hot dog.

Don’t listen to chuck, I have a decent amount of taste and experience when you it comes to beer, and I was surprised by how good this beer was. I wasn’t expecting much, but it blew me away. Nice head, good nose, and it has a smokey flavor.

Chuck- If only they could really make a beer which tasted like a hot dog- It would kill two birds with one stone.

This beer tastes like ham. HAM. smells like soy sauce, and kinda like those little pink chunks of pork in fried rice. depending on your taste, you might like it. i didnt but my girlfriend did…surprising since she doesnt like ham…i agree with chuck, this beer is god-awful

An awesome beer!!!!!!!!!!! Obviously Chuck and Robin prefer a bland light beer with no taste. I usually drink Newcastle Brown Ale, but switched to this for now. Great job Michelob. The different tastes are great for the taste buds. Gotta try Marzen now.

This beer is pretty good. not a big fan of the wheat but not bad either way. not sure if chuck or robin have ever drank one of these but it tastes nothing like a pork product of any kind, or maybe they have never had pork….. either way good for what it is.

Mix it with the Honey Lager. It tastes pretty good then. They honey lager is too sweet and the Dunkel is too hoppy. Mix them and get a good combo. Great…now AB will still this idea and make money off me. ha

Ok… I love beer and often like to try something new. I’m not much of a light beer drinker. I enjoy dark, heavy, full bodied brews. So when I picked up a sixer of this stuff I was excited. After all… I’m a long time fan of Michelob lager and I love the new Porter. I have to say this is the worst beer I have ever tasted. The pour was fine… nice head yet fruity strange aroma. No worries! Now for the first sip… a strange fruity taste with a terrible after taste that hits you a split second after the swallow. Needless to say It never got any better even with a second try. I bought this crap in March and I still have the rest in my bar fridge. I try but just can’t get anyone to drink it! No beer has ever lasted this long in my house, and that is why Michelob’s “Dunkel Weisse” has to be the worst beer I’ve ever had.

I really don’t know what’s wrong with all of you who hated this beer. Even if the taste is nothing like any of the Miller Lite and crap that you probably drink, to say that it’s undrinkable and that you can’t even give it away it borders on mental retardation. You’re probably the same people who only eat chicken fingers and french fries and other “American” food, and think that everything else is for faggots.
All that aside, it was an interesting beer. They use mostly wheat malt with a little toasted barley malt for the dark color, and there’s a special yeast strain that produces the banana/clove esters that these beers are known for. I’m trying to find a good clone brew recipe right now cause I think it’ll be a fun beer to try and recreate at home. I’m gonna make mine at least 7-8% alcohol though!
